Abstract

Donald Worster, a founder of environmental history, describes the potential of an ecological civilization to end the centuries-long conflict between capitalism and communism. With roots in Western philosophy and Chinese traditions with relevance to our contemporary planetary consciousness, Worster lays out a worldview that emphasizes the ecosphere, one that stresses responsibility for all ecosystems and species on Earth.
